The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a series of directives aimed at safeguarding prospective corps members and tightening its verification protocols as preparations gather pace for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year.
The scheme strongly advised against travelling to orientation camps after dark. To avoid nocturnal journeys, prospective corps members were instructed to break their trips where necessary and pass the night at secure locations, including designated military or security posts.
Simultaneously, the NYSC announced a stricter verification regime designed to reinforce the integrity of its deployment system. In a public notice published on its official X account on Monday, the scheme declared that obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) is now a prerequisite for mobilisation into national service.
Highlighting the compulsory nature of the mandate, the NYSC warned that prospective corps members without the requisite clearance face exclusion or delays in deployment, posting:
“NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
Although specific instructions regarding the registration portal were not detailed in the notice, the scheme urged both tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to finalise all documentation and verification procedures promptly ahead of the upcoming orientation exercise.
