The Yobe State Government has distributed 27,569 goats and various agricultural inputs to 1,590 farmers as part of its Agricultural Empowerment Programme.

Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the media aide to Gov. Mai Mala Buni, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu on Wednesday.

The initiative, launched by Vice-President Kashim Shettima two weeks ago, is a key project of the Buni administration.

Mohammed explained that 1,060 farmers received fertiliser, seeds, agro-chemicals, sprayers, water pumps, and mini farm equipment such as hand ploughs, powered tillers, and multi-purpose threshers. Additionally, 530 female beneficiaries were each given three goats for breeding purposes.

He noted that these items were distributed free of charge to farmers across 53 wards in Yunusari, Geidam, Bursari, Tarmuwa, and Gulani Local Government Areas.

According to Mohammed, the programme aims to boost agricultural productivity, ensure food security, and stimulate economic growth within the state.

The initiative targets a total of 5,300 farmers in 178 wards across Yobe’s 17 local government areas.

Mohammed urged farmers to make effective use of the provided resources and warned against the diversion of inputs.

Babagana Ali, a beneficiary from Yunusari, expressed that the support would help him expand his farmland and increase productivity. Musa Aliyu, from Geidam, said the equipment would allow him to engage in both irrigation and rain-fed farming. Hajja Fanna Modu, a beneficiary from Bursari, praised the government’s gesture, noting that it would significantly improve her social and economic wellbeing.
