The Kebbi Secretary to the Government (SSG), Yakubu Bala-Tafida, says the 2025 Yauri Rigatta and Cultural Festival, scheduled for Feb. 13 to Feb. 15, will attract investments and showcase new innovations in Yauri Emirate.

Bala-Tafida, who is the National Chairman of the festival, said this at a news conference in Birnin Kebbi on Monday while briefing newsmen about preparations for the festival.

He said that the Rigatta Committee had engaged organisations and foreign embassies to attract investment, recognising Yauri’s potential as a mining hub.

He added that “during our recent visit to China with Gov. Nasir Idris, a Chinese investor expressed interest in bringing 200 million dollars investment to Yauri.

“Several sponsors are prepared to fulfill their corporate social responsibilities within Yauri emirate.

“This is the fourth edition of the rigatta under the Emir of Yauri, Prof. Muhammadu Zayyanu-Abdullahi.

“In recognition of his commitment to the rigatta, the emir has conferred the traditional title of  `Gamjin Yauri’ on Gov. Idris, who remains dedicated to ensuring the festival’s continued success.”

He explained that the 2025 edition would feature an agricultural fair, cultural performances and water displays, with new innovations designed to elevate the festival’s national and global appeal.

Bala-Tafida expressed gratitude to the government and people of the state for their unwavering support.

On the significance of the hippopotamus gifted to the governor by the emir of Yauri during the 2024 rigatta, Bala-Tafida said the animal is a symbol of strength and unity in Yauri emirate.

He said “our identity is tied to the hippo. What you cherish most is what you give to those you hold dear, which is why the emir presented the animal to our esteemed governor.”
