The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso in Oyo State, on Tuesday, dismissed the report on the closure of the institution for fear of being attacked by people suspected to be bandits.
The Publication Relations Officer of the institution, Olalekan Fadeyi, in a statement released by the institution’s Registrar, Olayinka Balogun, said there is no iota of truth in the rumour circulating on the closure of the institution.
Balogun explained that there is no immediate reason for such action.
Scores of teachers and students of Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area of the state were abducted during coordinated attacks on Friday around 9:30 a.m.
Also, on Tuesday, palpable fear gripped the residents of Ogbomoso over the alleged invasion of some communities, including LAUTECH, by people suspected to be kidnappers.
However, a statement issued by LAUTECH on Tuesday read, “This is to strongly debunk the rumour making the rounds that the Management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, has closed down the University for fear of invasion by bandits.
“This is to inform our students, their parents and guardians that there is no immediate reason for management of LAUTECH to close down the University, therefore the University is still in session.
“As a matter of fact, our students are correctly writing their examinations, and the exercise continues tomorrow (Wednesday). Management regrets whatever inconvenience this unfounded rumour may have caused,” the statement added.
