The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned prospective candidates to verify their identity details before creating registration profiles for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry.
In an advisory video released on Wednesday as part of its “JAMB Explained” series on X, the board cautioned that minor errors made during profile creation could severely disrupt the admission process later. JAMB urged candidates to verify that their names and dates of birth match their National Identity Number (NIN) records beforehand, asking: “Before you create your JAMB profile to register for the UTME or Direct Entry, take a moment and carefully check to confirm that your name, date of birth, and any other details linked to the NIN are correct. Why?”
The exam body explained that profile data is pulled directly from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database and cannot be altered by JAMB. “That means if there’s any error with your name or date of birth, JAMB cannot change it after registration,” the board noted.
The body warned that affidavits will not automatically rectify discrepancies and stressed that initial identity records form the baseline for candidate profiles, making early accuracy critical before proceeding with registration.
