Spanish footballer Álvaro Morata has disclosed that his recent transfer to AC Milan played a significant role in the breakdown of his marriage to Alice Campello.

The 31-year-old striker, who recently joined Milan for €13 million after helping Spain win Euro 2024, revealed the details following their separation, which was announced on August 12 via Instagram.

Morata and Campello, who married in Venice in 2017, have four children together.

According to Morata, the couple’s split was influenced by Campello’s preference to remain in Spain, while he pursued his career in Italy.

He firmly denied rumours of infidelity, stating, “I am devastated, but I swear I never cheated on her. She’s the most important woman in my life.”

Morata further expressed his frustration with the ongoing speculation surrounding their separation, clarifying that he chose not to attend Spain’s national team celebrations to avoid further rumours.

Despite their differences, he emphasized their commitment to maintaining a strong relationship for the sake of their children, saying, “There are no regrets.”

Campello, in an interview with Spanish outlet Marca, attributed their split to post-partum depression following the birth of their fourth child and the challenges of frequent relocations due to Morata’s football career.

She explained, “We are two young people, and we have both been immature in managing certain situations. The instability of moving from one country to another and my post-partum depression have had an impact.”

She also dismissed the infidelity rumours, insisting that their love and respect for each other remain strong despite the separation. “We love each other infinitely, and nothing will change that. It is what we both needed now, but I know that Álvaro would do anything for me,” she added.
