Communities along the Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road have praised the Federal Government and the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, for facilitating the resumption of construction work on the road, which was abandoned more than three years ago.
Recall that Barau recently announced the approval of ₦19 billion for the project by the Federal Government on his verified Facebook page, stating that the approval aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises the delivery of quality infrastructure with direct impact on communities across the country.
Barau, who represents Kano North Senatorial District, explained that the approval followed his meeting with the Deputy Managing Director of CGC Nigeria Limited, Mr Lv Haiming, in Abuja, where outstanding issues surrounding the stalled project were resolved.
A resident of Rimin Gado town along the road, Malam Lawan Bala, said in a telephone interview on Thursday that contractors had already returned to the site, expressing happiness over the development.
“I want to tell you that residents of this area are happy to see that work on the road has resumed after over three years of abandonment. We are really glad to see the contractors back on site,” he said.
Bala commended the Federal Government for approving additional funds for the completion of the project, which had been left halfway.
“We also thank Senator Barau for ensuring that the road is considered for completion. This singular act deserves commendation because it is part of his constituency project,” Bala added.
Another resident, Sani Sulaiman, also applauded the Federal Government for approving additional funds for the completion of the abandoned project.
“We are truly grateful to the Federal Government for considering this road, given its strategic and economic importance to the communities along the axis.
“Beyond its economic value, the road links Kano State with other states such as Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara, as well as the neighbouring Niger Republic,” Sulaiman said.
According to him, the road will not only boost socio-economic activities across the states and beyond but will also enhance security in the area upon completion.
He, however, urged the contractor to ensure quality work, noting that motorists had endured hardship on the road for a long time.
The Federal Government had, on June 11, 2021, flagged off the construction of the dual carriageway from Kano to Dayi town in Katsina State at a cost of ₦62.7 billion. However, work was halted more than three years ago.
The single-lane Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road, spanning about 100 kilometres, is being reconstructed into a dual carriageway to ease transportation within the axis and facilitate the movement of farm produce from rural areas to markets across neighbouring states.
