Bobrisky: FG suspends senior NCoS officers over bribery allegations

The Federal Government has suspended senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) over allegations of bribery linked to controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. 

A blogger Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, had in viral videos claimed that Mr Okuneye paid N15 million to officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges against him in April 2924.

Mr Okuneye was convicted by the court and sentenced to a six-month prison term.

Additionally, Mr Otse alleged that Mr Okuneye paid millions of naira to secure preferential treatment in from prison officers. 

While the crossdresser has denied the claims, both the EFCC and the NCoS have launched investigations into the allegations against their officers.

On Thursday, September 26, 2024, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board confirmed the suspension of the officers implicated in the scandal. 

According to a statement signed by Ja’afaru Ahmed, the Director/Secretary of the board, the suspension aims to facilitate further investigation with findings to be made public in due course.

The officers suspended include Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, both Deputy Controllers of Corrections at Kirikiri prisons in Lagos wherr Mr Okuneye is expected to have served his jail term.

Additionally, ASC II Ogbule Obinna, based in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, was suspended for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate outside the facility.
