Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, says he’s confident in Nigeria’s ability to defeat the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header.

The Super Eagles are set to face the Mediterranean Knights, with the first leg taking place in Uyo on Friday, October 11, and the return fixture scheduled for Tuesday, October 15 in Benghazi.

Nigeria currently sits atop Group D with four points from their first two matches, following a 3-0 win in Uyo against Rohr who coaches the Benin Republic side, and a goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali last month.

Despite the absence of star striker Victor Osimhen, who is sidelined due to injury, interim coach Austin Eguavoen has named a 23-man squad for the two crucial encounters.

Rohr, however, believes that Nigeria’s depth in quality players will be enough to secure victory over the resilient Libyan team, even without their top scorer.

With AFCON qualification on the line, the Super Eagles will look to maintain their group lead and secure their spot in the tournament.

“Of course, Libya is not easy to play,” Rohr warned. “They are a team with lots of temperaments and character; and don’t forget they have even changed to a local coach as such, Nigeria must be careful.”

The oldest European coaches on the continent added that, “Away matches are always difficult but I believe they (Super Eagles) can do it even without Osimhen; that’s my opinion.”

All the Super Eagles players are expected to report in Uyo on Monday, October 7.
