Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Chief Olabode George has threatened to sue Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, dismissing claims that his Maitama residence in Abuja was purchased using Rivers State funds.
The exchange marks the latest chapter in an ongoing rift between the two PDP figures over internal party crises, judicial integrity, and leadership standing.
During a television interview on TVC News on Wednesday night, George strongly denied the minister’s property allegations, explaining that he had bought the residence directly from a retired civil servant via a real estate agent. George questioned Wike’s mental fitness and maturity, stating that it was beneath his dignity to engage someone roughly the age of his eldest child.
Recalling his immediate reaction to the minister’s claims, George remarked:
“I said to myself that that young man needs to be immediately taken to the psychiatric hospital. My house in Abuja was bought with funds from Rivers? How?”
George further suggested that Wike lacked the moral authority to lecture others, citing alleged personal family estrangements, while calling on the President to distance himself from the minister. Vowing to take the matter to court, he added:
“I’m going to sue him to court for all the shenanigans, the thoughtlessness.”
When asked if reconciliation was possible for the sake of party unity, George declared that Wike had “sunk himself” beyond redemption.
The row follows a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday where Wike publicly challenged George’s integrity, labelling him the “father of corruption” and daring him to disclose how the Abuja property was financed. Reaffirming his stance when pressed for details, the minister stated:
“I have told you; I have made a statement. Let him come and prove it. I have said it, he has heard it. I said so.”
During the same chat, Wike also targeted George over his frequent criticism of the judiciary. Referring to a recent petition George submitted to the National Judicial Council following a 17 July Federal High Court ruling that dismissed a suit by an opposing PDP faction, Wike accused him of selectively alleging corruption only when court verdicts went against his interests.
