The Yobe State government has said that the recent withdrawal of USAID funding has significantly impacted over 220,000 beneficiaries in the state, particularly in key sectors.

Dr. Muhammad Goje, Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), revealed this in Damaturu, the state capital.

According to Daily Trust, he confirmed that the withdrawal has disrupted critical services in areas such as health, education, protection, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), early recovery and livelihoods, food security, and multipurpose cash assistance.

Goje expressed concern that this funding loss has created significant gaps in vital humanitarian and development services, leaving vulnerable communities at risk.

“The USAID funding withdrawal has affected over 220,000 beneficiaries, particularly in health, education, protection, WASH, early recovery, livelihoods, food security, and cash assistance.

“We are now working to mobilise resources and advocate for alternative funding to sustain life-saving interventions,” he said.

Governor Mai Mala Buni has instructed SEMA and other relevant agencies to assess the gaps and take immediate steps to mitigate the consequences.

Goje noted that a thorough analysis has been conducted in collaboration with UNOCHA and key partners to identify the most pressing needs and explore sustainable solutions.
