Retired military personnel staged a protest at the Ministry of Finance in Abuja, demanding the immediate payment of their outstanding entitlements.

The protesters, on Tuesday, set up canopies and chairs at the ministry’s entrance, carrying placards with messages urging the federal government to settle their long-overdue benefits.

This demonstration follows a similar protest in December, during which the retirees temporarily shut down the ministry over the government’s failure to address their claims, according to BusinessDay.

The retirees are demanding several benefits, including palliatives covering October 2023 to November 2024, a ₦32,000 increase in their monthly pensions, a lump sum payment of the security debarment allowance, and a refund of pension deductions from soldiers who were medically discharged.

In December, the federal government had paid 50 per cent of the retirees’ outstanding entitlements and promised to settle the remaining balance.

However, the retirees claim the government has yet to fulfill this commitment, prompting Tuesday’s renewed protest.

The group vowed to continue their demonstrations until all their entitlements are fully disbursed, emphasising their sacrifices and contributions to national security.
