Popular crossdresser found dead on Abuja expressway; police launch investigation

A popular crossdresser known as Abuja Area Mama has been found dead along the Katampe-Mabushi expressway in Abuja, sparking an investigation by the police authorities.

On Thursday, a viral image began circulating online showing the lifeless body of the crossdresser lying in a pool of blood, with visible scratches and bruises on his body and face. 

His belongings were found scattered beside him, and he was dressed in the same clothes he had been seen wearing just hours before the incident.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, has ordered an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the police confirmed they received a distress call early Wednesday morning regarding the discovery. 

According to Adeh, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had no form of identification on him at the time he was found.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to uncover the details leading to the crossdresser’s death.

The statement reads, “In response to a distress call received by the Command Control Room on 08/08/2024 at about 07:40 AM, that an unidentified lady was seen lying motionless along Katampe – Mabushi expressway, a team of detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene,” the statement reads in part.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the individual was a man fully dressed in female clothings with no means of identification on him. He was immediately taken to Maitama District Hospital where Doctors on duty confirmed him dead.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, has promptly ordered a thorough and discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death. Updates on this matter will be communicated in due course.”
