The governor of Cross River, Bassey Otu, on Friday, August 9, 2024, said the state has secured funding for a railway project that would connect the southern and northern regions of the state.

Otu while speaking at the State Executive Council meeting in Calabar said the railway line would link Bakassi Local Government Area in the southern part of the state with Ogoja, Obudu, and Bakwarra LGAs in the northern district.

According to the governor, the project would significantly enhance the conveyance of agricultural products across areas of the state and improve connectivity.

He said, “This railway line will not only improve connectivity within the state but also serve as a vital link for easy movement of our agricultural produce, boosting trade and economic growth.

“In addition to the railway project, our administration is committed to revolutionizing the state’s educational infrastructure.”

The governor also said that his administration will revamp at least 1,000 schools across Cross River with a focus on improving both primary and secondary education.

“My expectation is a complete transformation of our schools, from the construction and renovation of classroom blocks to furnishing.

“It will ultimately improve the quality of education and outcomes for our students,” the governor added.

Otu also admitted the growing positive attitude of residents and businesses toward governance, noting a significant increase in tax revenue.
