Victor Osimhen fired a second-half brace to lead Galatasaray to a 3-0 victory over Trabzonspor, sealing the Turkish Cup on Wednesday night in style.
Osimhen, who joined the Turkish giants last summer, entered the final with 33 goals and needed two more to surpass the 34-goal single-season record set by Mario Jardel in the 2000/01 season.
BusinessDay reports that he delivered, scoring twice after the break to guide Okan Burukās side to their first silverware of the season.
Baris Yilmaz opened the scoring in the fifth minute, finishing off an attack initiated by Osimhen and assisted by Yunus Akgun.
After halftime, Osimhen took centre stage. In the 50th minute, Akgun threaded a perfectly weighted pass into the Nigerianās path. Osimhen muscled past a defender and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
His second came just 13 minutes later, as he capped off a swift counterattack with a simple tap-in, bringing his tally to 35 goals in 39 matches across all competitions.
The Turkish Cup win marked Osimhenās first trophy with Galatasaray and the clubās 19th Turkish Cup title, according to BusinessDay.
Galatasaray are also on the verge of completing a domestic double. They currently sit top of the league table, eight points ahead of their closest rivals, Fenerbahce, with just five matches remaining.
A win against Kayserispor on Sunday would secure their 25th league title and their fourth domestic double in history since the 1998/99 season.
