The Bauchi government has inaugurated an 11-member Tripartite Technical Committee to fast track implementation of the new national minimum wage.
Membership of the committee comprises representatives of the state government, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Mr Dauda Shuaibu, the NLC Chairman in the state, said this at a news conference on Friday in Bauchi.
He said the development was sequel to a meeting between the organised labour and members of the state executive council.
Mr Shuaibu said the committee has approved N70,000 minimum wage for workers in the state.
“This development marks a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance the living standard of workers,” he said.
According to Mr Shuaibu, the objective is to develop modalities for the payment of the national minimum wage to workers, which was derived from various sources of salary structure in the state.
“The committee is set to begin work immediately with negotiations commencing from October 4.
“This timeline ensures that the implementation process is expedited to ensure workers benefit from the new minimum wage without delay,” he said.
