The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Adamawa recorded 138 cases of human rights violations between January and September 30, 2024, with parental neglect topping the list.
The NHRC coordinator in Adamawa State, Grace Mamza, while speaking in Yola on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, said that during the period under review, 80 percent of the cases were parental neglect due to economic hardship, among other violations.
Ms Mamza listed other violations including domestic violence with about 15 percent, right to inheritance, and physical assault, while five percent of the cases were on right to dignity and threat to life.
According to her, 75 percent of the cases were resolved, some are ongoing, while some were referred to police, judiciary and other organisations with similar mandates for further determination.
She urged Nigerians to respect human rights at all times for peaceful coexistence and advised parents, especially husbands, to take good care of their families.
She also called on the public to report any rights violations to the commission or security agencies for justice to prevail.
