The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will convene its Ordinary General Assembly in Nigeria this November, following an announcement by CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
As African football’s highest decision-making body, the General Assembly gathers leadership from all 54 member associations to deliberate on governance, tournament structures, and the future direction of the sport.
Addressing media in Johannesburg on Wednesday, Motsepe outlined the organisation’s post-2026 FIFA World Cup roadmap, emphasising a commitment to driving football growth across all member countries through tailored programmes and strategic investments.
“Nigeria is a proud football nation,” Motsepe said, explaining the choice of Abuja as host. “We have to do something very special in every one of the 54 countries on the continent.”
Motsepe also expressed regret over Nigeria’s absence from the upcoming global tournament, noting the nation’s historical impact on the sport.
“A World Cup for me without Nigeria… is incomplete because Nigeria has always made us proud,” he added, calling on African nations to push for greater global achievements.
