Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has a moral and political duty to rally massive support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid due to the significant tangible benefits the state has gained from aligning with the centre, a top government aide has declared.
The Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor, Abdullahi Idris (also known as Sadaukin Zuru), issued the defense in a statement on Monday entitled “In Defence of Governor Idris’ Support for President Tinubu.”
Citing critical gains, Sadaukin Zuru highlighted that joint security efforts against banditry have been bolstered because the Federal Government recognised Governor Idris’ logistics and financial backing for security agencies. Furthermore, federal agricultural interventions from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security have supplemented the state’s annual free input distributions, whilst President Tinubu has also resolved long-standing grievances regarding the unjust removal of Kebbi indigenes from federal posts.
Crucially, the President ended years of external interference by restoring the governor’s authority to select representatives for federal appointments. “After years of hijacking the state’s share of membership of federal boards and commissions, President Tinubu has reversed the situation and authorised Comrade Nasir Idris to recommend credible, experienced and selfless Kebbi indigenes for appointment,” the statement noted.
Looking ahead to the next general elections, the governor’s aide urged All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful across the state to consolidate these federal gains. “As we approach 2027, Governor Nasir Idris is calling on all APC members and lovers of progress in Kebbi to mobilise massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election. The centre is listening to Kebbi, and we must keep that door open,” he urged.
Sadaukin Zuru stressed that advocating for the President does not encroach upon democratic freedoms. “The governor also affirms that every Nigerian retains the constitutional right to vote according to conscience and the track record of the candidate of his or her choice,” he stated, reiterating that “multi-party democracy gives Nigerians the sovereign right to choose their party and direction.”
He described Governor Idris’ decisive win in the 2023 governorship contest as an unequivocal vote of confidence in his public service record and labour background, maintaining that “these gains have proved the fact that Kebbi benefits most when it stands firmly with the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the centre.”
