The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will suspend routine public operations on eight separate occasions between August and December 2026 to observe official American and Nigerian public holidays.
Consular and administrative services, including visa processing, passport applications, and notarial assistance, will be unavailable during the listed dates, according to the schedule published on the mission’s official website.
The upcoming closures begin on Tuesday, 25 August, for the Nigerian national holiday Eid-El-Maulud, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad. Operations will pause again on Monday, 7 September, for U.S. Labour Day, and on Thursday, 1 October, for Nigeria’s Independence Day.
Two further closures are scheduled in October and November for American observances: Columbus Day on Monday, 12 October, followed by Veterans Day on Wednesday, 11 November, and Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, 26 November.
The schedule concludes in December, with the missions closing on Friday, 25 December, for Christmas Day, which is celebrated in both nations, and Saturday, 26 December, for Boxing Day, a public holiday in Nigeria.
The embassy has advised individuals requiring consular services to plan appointments around the published timetable. Officials emphasised, however, that emergency assistance for American citizens will remain accessible throughout all holiday closures.
