Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured their progression to the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday following a resounding 6-2 victory over Egypt at the Rabat Olympic Stadium.
Justine Madugu’s side entered the final Group C fixture under intense pressure following a shock 3-2 defeat to tournament debutants Malawi and a hard-fought 1-0 win over Zambia.
However, the defending champions produced an attacking masterclass to seal qualification alongside Malawi, who topped the group on tiebreaks after defeating Zambia 2-1. Malawi, Nigeria, and Zambia all finished level on six points, while a winless Egypt bowed out after conceding 15 goals across three matches.
The holders established control when Asisat Oshoala converted a 21st-minute penalty, before Gift Monday doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time courtesy of a Rinsola Babajide assist. Egypt responded deep into added time through a Nadine Ghazi penalty, leaving the score 2-1 at the interval.
Nigeria dominated the second half. Babajide registered her second assist of the evening for Uchenna Kanu to net the third in the 57th minute, and Christy Ucheibe extended the lead from the spot in the 81st minute.
Though Ghazi claimed her second for Egypt shortly after, Rasheedat Ajibade scored Nigeria’s fourth penalty of the contest in stoppage time before turning provider for substitute Joy Omewa, who rounded off the 6-2 scoreline in the ninth minute of added time.
The Super Falcons march on to the knockout rounds in Morocco with renewed momentum as they chase a record-extending 11th continental crown.
