The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa says it will not participate in the upcoming November 2, 2024, local government elections in the state.

The party’s decision was made available to journalists in Lafia in a statement by the PDP’s state chairman, Francis Orogo.

The leading opposition party in the state, said its reason for the boycott was the high cost of obtaining expression of interest and nomination forms and a lack of trust in the electoral body as an unbiased umpire in conducting a free and fair election.

The chairman accused the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) of not giving opposition parties reasons to trust in the credibility and fairness of the upcoming elections.

The party also berated the state government for refusing to amend the electoral bill to allow election results for councillor positions to be announced at the ward level and those for chairmanship at the local government headquarters.
