It’s frustrating to get white collar jobs; do business instead, NYSC tells corpers

So, please, lower your pride and learn a skill. If you haven’t learned one, it is not too late to do so,” an official said.

The Bauchi State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, has asked corps members to lower their pride and learn a skill to be self employed and employers of labour.

Mrs Yakubu made the call on Thursday in Bauchi during distribution of certificates of national service to the 2023 Batch “C” stream II corps members in the state.

She said the call became necessary in view of the scarcity of white collar jobs.

She commended those who were able to learn a skill during the service year and tasked them to effectively build on it for maximum benefit.

“Let us not deceive ourselves, holding on to that certificate looking for jobs day and night which is frustrating.

“Don’t go and sit at home expecting a job as a graduate or disturbing your parents. Try to engage in business like other graduates that are making it by taking the challenge.

“So, please, lower your pride and learn a skill. If you haven’t learned one, it is not too late to do so,” she said, urging the outgoing corps members to be good ambassadors and remain focused.

A total of 1,710 corps members comprising 1,085 males and 625 females received their certificates at the ceremony.
