The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is set to undergo a leadership transition on Friday, 31 July 2026, as outgoing Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede officially hands over the reins to Prof. Segun Aina.
According to an official notice issued on Wednesday, the formal handover ceremony will commence at 10:00 am and will be broadcast live across the examination body’s official social media channels. JAMB invited members of the public to watch the event online, describing it as a “significant milestone in the board’s leadership journey.”
The event marks the conclusion of Oloyede’s tenure, which officially expires on 31 July, and signals the start of a new administration under Aina.
Aina’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu was previously announced in a presidential statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. The Presidency highlighted Aina’s background as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, pointing to his technical expertise in digital infrastructure, national examination systems, and institutional reform.
As one of the country’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering, Aina will also make history as the youngest Registrar to lead the matriculation board.
Aina earned his undergraduate degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, followed by a Master’s in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He is also an alumnus of the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Over the past 15 years, the incoming Registrar has advised both federal and state governments on institutional design and digital transformation. His background includes consultancy roles for major national examination bodies, such as the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), focusing primarily on ICT infrastructure and examination integrity.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Aina’s capacity to build upon the operational reforms and administrative achievements established during Oloyede’s stewardship, ensuring further modernisation of the board’s activities.
