A high-level delegation from the Kano State Government has visited Sokoto State to pay homage to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, following the passing of the Sardaunan Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji.
Representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the delegation made several stops across the state capital, beginning at the residence of the late traditional titleholder. Conveying the governor’s condolences directly to the bereaved family, the team was received by the deceased’s eldest son, Aminu Abubakar, who expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for his solidarity during their period of grief.
The visit was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa. The delegation was led by Deputy Governor Murtala Garo, alongside Secretary to the State Government Umar Ibrahim, Emir of Rano Muhammad Umar, Kano State APC Chairman Umar Doguwa, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Aisha Saji, and other senior officials.
Continuing their condolence tour, the delegates visited the Sokoto State Government House, where they were received by the Deputy Governor and the Secretary to the State Government to extend sympathy to the local administration and citizens.
In a formal audience at the palace, the delegation delivered Governor Yusuf’s message to the Sultan of Sokoto. The monarch commended the gesture as a reflection of the region’s shared heritage, stating: “We appreciate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for this thoughtful gesture. It reflects the unity and enduring brotherhood that bind the people of Northern Nigeria together.”
In his official message, Governor Yusuf paid tribute to the late Sardaunan Sokoto as a distinguished elder whose lasting legacy across Northern Nigeria and the Sultanate Council would endure.
Offering prayers for the family and the wider community, he added: “We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his family, the Sultanate Council and the people of Sokoto State the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
