A letter circulating online and attributed to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been dismissed as fake by his family.
In a statement released Thursday, his son, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, speaking on behalf of the family, described the document titled “Urgent Message” and dated July 14, 2026, as fraudulent. He stressed that the letter, allegedly addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), did not originate from the former governor.
“The former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, CON, wishes to alert the public that a fake letter is in circulation, purported to have been signed by him,” the statement read. It added that the content and handwriting bore no resemblance to El-Rufai’s.
The family condemned the document as “politics by fakery,” describing it as “an instance of the most primitive politics” and urging the public to disregard it.
The disputed letter, seen online, raised objections to the nomination of Isah Ashiru as the ADC governorship candidate in Kaduna State. It claimed Ashiru’s candidacy had caused tension within the party because he allegedly failed to complete online membership registration before the April 30, 2026 deadline, which it described as a constitutional requirement. The letter further urged party leaders to intervene and review the matter.
El-Rufai’s family, however, insisted the document was fabricated and called on Nigerians to ignore it.
