The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has alerted the public to ignore a viral social media notice regarding job openings, confirming that the update is completely fraudulent and did not emanate from the agency.
Recruitment scams remain a persistent issue nationwide, with fraudsters frequently exploiting high demand for public sector employment by circulating fraudulent adverts to extort money from unsuspecting applicants. These recurring schemes have prompted repeated warnings from security agencies and public institutions advising citizens to avoid unverified recruitment notices.
In a Thursday statement, the agency disowned the circulating notices.
“The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) wishes to inform the public that the purported recruitment update currently circulating on some social media platforms is fake and did not originate from the Service,” the statement read.
Urging citizens to remain alert and double-check information prior to sharing or acting on it, the agency stressed that genuine updates on recruitment and other activities are published exclusively through its official channels.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication and rely only on information disseminated through the official communication channels of the Nigeria Customs Service,” the agency stated, adding a brief caution: “Stay vigilant. Verify information before sharing.”
To prevent further deception, the agency identified its verified handles as Facebook (Nigeria Customs Service) alongside its Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Threads, and TikTok accounts (@customsng).
