Flight operations to and from Benin Airport have been grounded following a temporary runway closure ordered by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The shutdown was prompted by a recent runway excursion, where a landing aircraft veered off the tarmac, necessitating immediate recovery efforts and infrastructure safety evaluations.
In response to the incident, Nigeria Airlines issued a statement on Thursday confirming the total cancellation of its Benin routes until aviation authorities clear the runway for use.
“We wish to inform our valued passengers and the general public that, due to the closure of the runway by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as a result of an excursion, all our flights to and from Benin Airport have been cancelled pending its reopening,” the airline management stated.
Addressing the resulting travel disruptions, the carrier offered an apology to affected travelers, emphasizing that passenger welfare remains their top priority. The airline encouraged customers to reach out to its support team for assistance with rebooking and alternative travel arrangements, appealing for patience while FAAN completes the required safety checks to reopen the airport.
